Dear Xavier - Three Years

Dear Xavier,

Sorry I'm a few days late writing your letter.  In all honesty, I've been procrastinating writing this - not just because we've been crazy busy but because I am still in denial that you are now a self-proclaimed "big kid" now.

You may be small in size, but yes, indeed, you are a big kid now.  You have to do everything by yourself - getting dressed, going to the bathroom, putting your shoes on - and, as frustrating (and sloooooow) as it is for me to try and get us out the door on time, it is nice seeing your rapidly growing independence.

You can still throw a mean tantrum when things don't go your way, but it seems that you save all of that screaming and fit-throwing for me.  Apparently you are a perfect angel at school and for your teachers, but boy do you have the ability to make me want to tear my hair out at times!  Your sister breezed through the "terrible twos" and it sometimes seemed as if you were making up for her easiness.

But, over all, you are the goofiest, happiest, fun-loving kid.  You have the silliest expressions and tell funny jokes.  You impress us with how easily you take things in - you mastered potty-training in no time and you can almost out-sing Lissie in the ABCs and the Days of the Week song.

Some of your likes:
  • Sid, the Science Kid
  • Airplanes and toy trucks
  • Reading
  • Swimming
  • Chocolate
  • School
  • Sand
  • Eating, eating, eating (seriously, where do you put it all?!?)
Some of your dislikes:
  • Rupert (especially when he eats stuff that falls off his plate)
  • Squash and tomatoes
  • Not getting his way
  • Water play (while he loves to swim, he hates being wet)
Oh, Xavier.  You are completely, totally, and wonderfully you.  And for that, I love you.

Silliness is finding your old swaddle blanket and wanting to be wrapped up.

Sadness is realizing he is still too little to ride some rides at the fair.

Happiness is riding a plane at the Smithsonian.

Cheesy, silly boy

Not too cool to don Lissie's old butterfly helmet.

Xavier winks.

Happy happy birthday.

Love,
Mommy

P.S.  We celebrated your birthday early when we were on vacation in DC with the grandparents.  On your actual birthday we went to Mass, went swimming, and enjoyed some Sweet Cece's and hot dogs for dinner.  Your lolo and lola wanted yet another birthday celebration at their house, too, so you ended up with another cake and more presents there.  Lucky, lucky three year old you!
